Prenatal Care Program

One of the most important gifts a mother-to-be can give her baby is a healthy pregnancy. Research shows that expectant mothers following good prenatal care practices can give their babies the best advantage possible - good health.

The Prenatal Care Program from Nippon Life Benefits helps identify health risks during pregnancy. By recognizing these risks early, specially-trained obstetrical nurses are able to guide parents in the right direction for early intervention.

One of the most important gifts a mother-to-be can give her baby is a healthy pregnancy. Research shows that expectant mothers following good prenatal care practices can give their babies the best advantage possible - good health.

That's why Nippon Life Benefits offers Special Delivery. It's a comprehensive program designed to promote the health and well-being of moms-to-be and their babies and to help prevent health issues from occurring during pregnancy.

An Additional Benefit to Medical Customers
Available to employees and dependents covered under the employer's health care benefit, this voluntary program is offered at no charge. In addition, Nippon Life Benefits provides a $100 incentive to employees and dependents who enroll during the first 20 months of pregnancy and complete the program. Check out our Special Delivery flyer for more information.

How the Program Works
Employees simply answer questions about health and family medical history, and their answers are evaluated by the program's highly skilled nurses, who are experienced in prenatal care. After the evaluation, a personal phone consultation will be arranged. If any areas need special attention, the nurse will refer the employee to appropriate health care services (under the direction of the employee's doctor).

Women who enroll in Special Delivery will receive personalized health information and educational materials. They'll also receive a copy of Journey through Pregnancy. There is no obligation to join - or once enrolled, to continue with the program.

How the Program Works

The program's experienced Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) work with participating employees to complete a health/obstetric risk assessment. If an employee is not considered high-risk for complications during pregnancy, the same LPN will follow her pregnancy's progress.

If there is a risk for complications - or if complications develop unexpectedly - the employee will work with a Registered Nurse (RN) case manager for the remainder of her pregnancy. The RN will collaborate with the mother-to-be and her treatment team to help promote a healthy delivery.

Women who enroll in the Prenatal Care Program will receive an introductory letter and educational booklet after completing the risk assessment, as well as the book What You Need to Know About Pregnancy. There is no obligation to join - or once enrolled, to continue with the program.
